FAQ:

  • What is the school fee?
    • The school fee is a part of the student fee, which is used to support the various programs available to undergraduate students, including health services, athletics and recreation. The fee varies by school, as shown here
  • My term bill says the school fee is more than $40.25. Where is the rest of the fee going and what is it being used for?
    • The $40.25 refers specifically to the RUSA Portion of the school fee. The remainder is allocated to your school’s Dean to support school-specific programs and initiatives.
  • Why can’t the additional school fee be allocated to the $40.25?
    • The school fee is used to support a wide variety of initiatives, which vary each year based on the needs of each school. The $40.25 RUSA receives is separate from the broader fees associated with the facilities and operations of each school.
  • Is the $40.25 distributed differently based on what school I am a part of?
    • Yes, RUSA receives the full $40.25 from School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) students, but only 20% of that fee from other schools. The exact breakdown can be found here (link to the infographic)
  • Who will get the $15.00 funding and what is the breakdown?
    • The $15.00 increase will go to the RUSA Allocations Board for redistribution to all RUSA-funded clubs and organizations. It will also be used to increase funding for the Rutgers University Programming Association [RUPA]
  • How will the $15.00 benefit me?
    • All students, regardless of school, can join RUSA-funded clubs and attend RUPA-sponsored events, like Hot Dog Day, Bed Races and Beats on the Banks. This is an initiative that benefits ALL STUDENTS
  • Why has my club’s funding changed so drastically in the Fall 2024 semester?
    • During COVID-19, clubs met less frequently, so RUSA allocated fewer funds, which led to a surplus for the RUSA Allocations Board. That surplus has since depleted, which is why clubs are seeing a reduction in funding for the Fall 2024 semester.
  • If the second question passes, will RUSA have the power to adjust the RUSA portion of the school fee as they please?
    • No! If the second question passes, RUSA will only be able to adjust the RUSA portion fee within a 2% cap. Any additional increase will need to approved through another referendum
  • Will this allow Rutgers to have bigger programs, like the other schools?
    • Yes! This referendum is not only intended to help clubs uphold their programming traditions, but also expand them.
  • What can I do to ensure this referendum passes?
    • This initiative will only pass with the support of student organizations. Reaching out to any clubs you are involved in to ensure they are aware of the benefits of this referendum is absolutely crucial to save organizational funding. Your voice and support can make a significant difference in rallying others to join this cause!
